love and loss

So it is with a sad heart that I tell you that we have lost our little angel; Pele Leona McCurdy.
There were complications with the pregnancy that were extremely sudden.
I started to dilate and even with an attempt at preventative surgery my water broke.
She was too little to save.
She passed from us on 9-13-2012.
While I am hurting more than even I know, I still wish to continue with the work of Project Access Homebirth.
Thank you everyone who was cheering for our reaching our goal, everyone who donated to help, and all of you who sent loving words of inspiration.
She is no longer with us in body but in heart forever.

Our Story

Hello dear family, friends, and community!

We reach out to you and seek your loving assistance in our quest in having a homebirth for the birth of our 4th child (whom we think is a little girl)!

Natural birth is one of my largest passions! I am a birthworker and birth safety/ rights activist and it is one of my goals to become a CPM (Certified Professional Midwife). I have birthed 3 babies in my life- 2 planned hospital births and one homebirth that transferred to the hospital. Having experienced the peace of laboring and nearly birthing at home, I can see myself birthing no other way. For me, homebirth is the right choice.

There have been several traumatic experiences for me surrounding hospitals and while we have access to a hospital birth we do not feel that this is the right or safest choice for us. Knowing what we want in the experience and energy of our birth the next step in our journey is to fund this birth. We have met a wonderful Midwife- Shiela Vanderveer -who is extremely supportive of us and our process. She is a wonderful woman whom I felt an excellent connection and rapport with right away and I know that she will move with us through this birthing journey in sync with us even if we need to transfer to a hospital.

Though we are making great headway, we are really going to have to pool all of our resources to make this happen. We need to come up with $4,500 by December 31st (a few weeks before my due date).

We are asking for donations of any size or small (no interest) loans that we will pay back within a year. If you would like to contribute with a small loan please contact us at projectaccesshomebirth@gmail.com.
We know that with the loving support of all of you we will be able to make this dream a reality!

Much love and gratitude to all of you,
Ruth & Ian
